Device settings — Paloma POS 2
This article is about Paloma POS 2 — the new Paloma cash register app for a tablet, POS terminal, or Windows device. If you are not sure which product you have, start with “How to tell you have Paloma POS 2”. It covers the settings of one specific device: appearance theme and brightness, light palette, interface language, currency symbol, the on-screen keyboard (including Kazakh letters), the combined “Save & send” button, and direct receipt printing without a preview. It also explains the code gate that guards Settings.
Overview
- Settings section. The “Settings” tile on the home screen opens the sections, among them “Appearance” (theme and brightness) and “Region & format” (language, currency, date & time).
- This device only. Theme, brightness, language, the on-screen keyboard, and the behavior switches apply only to the register where you change them. On the account’s other devices they stay as they were until you change them there too.
- Code gate. Settings are protected by the “Settings access” gate — to open them, a staff member enters a PIN.
- On-screen keyboard. A built-in keyboard can be enabled for text fields; it switches language and types Kazakh letters on a long press.
- Faster checkout. The two order buttons can be merged into one — “Save & send” — and receipt printing can be made instant, skipping the preview window.
- About and diagnostics. The “About” section shows the version and build date for support (and hosts account deletion); the “Diagnostics” section holds service tools that are touched only on support's instruction.
Before you start, sign in with your PIN and open a shift — see “PIN login and shift”.
Open Settings (code gate)
- On the home screen, tap the “Settings” tile.
- The “Settings access” gate opens with the hint “Enter PIN” and the text “Enter your PIN to open Settings.”.
- Enter your PIN on the keypad. With the correct code, the list of settings sections opens.
If the code is wrong, the register shows “Incorrect — try again” — the keypad stays active, so re-enter it. The message “Verification failed — please try again” means a temporary check error — retry.
Appearance: theme, brightness, palette
Open the “Appearance” section (subtitle “Theme, brightness”).
- Application brightness. The “Application Brightness” item switches the light/dark look: “System” follows the device, while “Light” and “Dark” force the look. The change applies at once, with no restart.
- Theme. The “Theme” item sets the color scheme of the app.
- Light palette. The “Light palette” item changes the light color scheme: “Classic” or “Honey (warm)”. It applies in the light look.
Region & format: language and currency
Open the “Region & format” section (subtitle “Language, currency, date & time”).
- Language. The “Language” item sets the interface language; the format strings below follow it.
- Currency symbol. The “Currency symbol” item picks the currency sign from a list (for example, tenge, ruble, dollar, euro) or a custom sign. The symbol immediately shows in prices and totals.
- Currency symbol position. The “Currency symbol position” item places the sign before or after the amount.
- Decimal digits. The “Decimal digits” item sets how many fractional digits appear in prices.
- Date & time. The “Date format” and “Time format” items set how the date and time look.
On-screen keyboard (including Kazakh)
The built-in on-screen keyboard is handy on devices without a physical keyboard.
- Turn on the “On-screen keyboard” switch — subtitle “Show a built-in keyboard for text fields on this device.”.
- When you tap a text field, the keyboard appears inside the app.
- The “Switch language” key toggles Latin and Cyrillic, and the layout key switches digits and symbols.
- Kazakh letters (Ә Қ Ң Ғ Ө Һ І Ұ Ү) are typed by long-pressing the “parent” Russian key — the hint reads “Hold for Kazakh letters”, and a strip of variants appears above the key. There is no separate fourth row.
- The “Turn off on this device” key disables the built-in keyboard on this register.
Combined “Save & send” button
The order screen usually has two buttons: “Save” saves the draft and “Send” fires the items to the kitchen (see “Table orders”). You can merge them:
- Open “Settings” → the “Appearance” section.
- Turn on the “Combined Save & Send button” switch — subtitle “Replace the separate Save and Send buttons with a single ‘Save & send’ button that also fires the kitchen (this device).”.
- On the order screen a single “Save & send” button replaces the two. One tap saves the draft and sends the new items to the kitchen at once.
The setting applies only to this device — on other registers the buttons stay separate.
Direct receipt printing without a preview
If you do not need the preview window, receipt printing can be a single tap (see “Receipt and bill”):
- Open “Settings” → the “Appearance” section.
- Turn on the “Print receipt without preview” switch — subtitle “The Receipt button becomes a Print button and prints the bill on a single tap, skipping the preview (this device).”.
- On the order screen the “Receipt” tile turns into a “Print” tile: a tap prints the bill immediately, skipping the preview.
The setting applies only to this device — on other registers the tile stays as it was.
About: version and build date
At the bottom of the settings list there is an “About” row — its subtitle already shows the version and build date (in the form “Version … · Built …”), so a quick answer for support is just one Settings tap away. Tapping it opens the “About” screen:
- “App version” — the full version number; this is what a support specialist will ask for.
- “Build date” — when the installed version was built.
- “Open-source licenses” — the list of bundled third-party software.
Deleting the account
At the very bottom of the “About” screen there is a “Delete account” row. The action is irreversible — it deletes the whole account with all business data, so it is protected by a double confirmation:
- Tap “Delete account” — a warning opens: “Delete account?”, explaining that the account and all business data will be deleted forever, sign-in will be blocked, and a confirmation link will be emailed to the account email.
- Confirm — the register shows “Check your email”: the confirmation link has been sent to the account email.
- Open the email and finish the deletion in a browser. The app itself deletes nothing — until you confirm the link from the email, the account is intact.
- Once the deletion completes, this device signs out automatically.
If the deletion couldn't start, the register shows “Couldn't start account deletion. Check your connection and try again.” — check the internet and retry.
Diagnostics
The “Diagnostics” section in settings is a service area: it gathers the sync and print inspectors, network-device monitoring, and the “Per-line check merge (pilot)” switch. That switch controls the pilot mode of per-line merging of concurrent edits to one check and is enabled only on support's instruction — see Offline mode and sync for details.
Common problems
- “Incorrect — try again” — a wrong PIN was entered at the “Settings access” gate. The keypad stays active — re-enter the correct code.
- “Verification failed — please try again” — a temporary code-check error when opening Settings. Retry; if it persists, check the connection and sync.
- Changed a setting, but a nearby register does not have it — that is by design: theme, brightness, language, the on-screen keyboard, and the behavior switches apply only to this device. Repeat the setting on the register you need.
- The “Receipt” tile is gone on the order screen — it is now a “Print” tile, which means “Print receipt without preview” is on. Turn the switch off in the “Appearance” section to bring the preview back.
- One button instead of two — the “Combined Save & Send button” is on. Turn the switch off if you want separate “Save” and “Send”.
FAQ
Are settings account-wide or per device?
Theme, brightness, light palette, language, the on-screen keyboard, the combined button, and direct printing apply to one specific device. Set them on each register separately.
How do I switch between dark and light theme?
Open “Settings” → “Appearance” → “Application Brightness” and pick “Light” or “Dark” (or “System” to follow the device). The change applies at once.
How do I type Kazakh letters on the on-screen keyboard?
Long-press the “parent” Russian key (the hint reads “Hold for Kazakh letters”) — the Kazakh variants appear above it (Ә Қ Ң Ғ Ө Һ І Ұ Ү). The “Switch language” key toggles Latin and Cyrillic.
Why does the register ask for a code to open Settings?
Settings are protected by the “Settings access” gate so that a random person cannot change them. Enter your PIN — with the correct code the list of sections opens.
