Install and first launch — Paloma POS 2
This article is about Paloma POS 2 — the new POS app in the Paloma line, for a tablet, POS terminal, or Windows device. It covers where to install the app, how to sign in or create an account, and what the POS offers after the first sign-in: a setup checklist and a guided first-sale tour. If you are not sure which product you have, start with How to tell you have Paloma POS 2.
Overview
The first launch has three stages:
- Install — download the app from the store for your device (Google Play, App Store, the Sunmi store, Valor, PAX) or install it on a Windows device.
- Sign in or register — connect the POS to an existing Paloma account or create a new one right in the app. On the first sign-in the POS loads the workplace data once, then works offline.
- Post-login setup — the POS walks you through a short checklist (printer, terminal, products) and offers a guided first-sale tour.
Install
Install the app from the store that matches your device:
- Android tablet or phone — install from Google Play.
- iPad or iPhone — install from the App Store.
- Windows device — download the installer and run it.
- Sunmi POS terminal — install from the built-in Sunmi app store.
- Valor terminal — install from the Valor device app store.
- PAX terminal — install from the PAX app store (marketplace).
In every case the app is named Paloma POS 2, with the Paloma icon. If a store lists several Paloma apps, the link above opens the right one directly. After installing, open the app — it will ask you to sign in or register.
Sign in to an existing account
If a Paloma account already exists (created by an administrator in the web dashboard or earlier), connect the POS to it:
- On the start screen enter "Account" — your account identifier (the hint below the field reads "issued at registration") — and tap "Next".
- Choose the sign-in mode: "Cash register" for a cash workplace, or "Management" for settings and reports access.
- Enter the "Workplace login" and password (for "Cash register" mode) or the "Employee login" and password (for "Management" mode).
- Tap "Sign in". While signing in, the POS shows "Signing in…".
The administrator creates the account and workplace data in the web dashboard. If you do not have them, request them from the administrator. "Forgot password?" → "Recover" sends a reset link to the account email (internet required).
First-time data load
After the workplace is chosen and before the PIN entry, the POS downloads the account's reference data once: "Preparing setup…" flashes first, then the "Setting up this workplace" screen with the note "This runs once. After it finishes, the POS works without internet." The screen shows a progress bar and the name of the current step — for example "Loading employees...", "Loading menu categories...", "Loading menu items...", "Loading stop list...", "Loading payment types...", "Finalizing...". Do not close the app — the POS moves on by itself when done.
There is deliberately no Retry button on this screen — the POS recovers on its own:
- Connection dropped — the POS shows "Reconnecting…" with the note "Connection interrupted. Retrying automatically — no need to restart." and continues from the same step.
- No network at all — the POS shows "Waiting for connection": "This device needs an internet connection to finish first-time setup. We'll keep trying automatically — no need to close and reopen." As soon as internet returns, the load continues on its own.
Two states are the exception: the POS stops and waits for help.
- "Update required" — "This device's saved data was created by a newer version of the app. To protect your unsent sales, setup is paused until this device is updated. Your data is safe and untouched — update the app to continue." Below the text there is a version line like "Data version … · App version …". Update the app from the device store and open it again.
- "Database update failed" — "This device could not finish updating its saved data. Your data is safe and untouched. Please message us here — a specialist will join and give them the code below." The code on the screen looks like "Migration error v…" — quote it to support.
Register a new account
If there is no account yet, create one in the app:
- On the sign-in screen tap "Sign up" (next to "No account?").
- Fill in the wizard steps: your details (first name, last name, phone, email), login and password, business name, point details, first employee and their PIN.
- At "What do you do?" pick a business type — "Quick service", "Restaurant", "Café & bar", "Retail", or "Services". This sets the point's starting configuration — everything can be tuned later.
- On "Tune your point", review the suggested settings (tables, service charge, tax, tips) and tap "Continue" — or "Skip" to keep the defaults.
- At "Business details", enter the point's address. Type the "ZIP code" and tap "Look up" (the button shows "Looking…" while searching) — the country, region, city, and time zone fill in automatically. If you see "No match for that ZIP — pick manually below", choose "Country", "State / region", and "City" from the lists. You cannot continue without a city — the POS shows "Select a city to continue". The selected country also sets the hint format in the phone fields.
- The POS creates the account and opens the POS (steps "Creating account…", "Signing in…", "Setting up the workplace…", "Opening the POS…").
If this step fails, the POS shows the error text and a "Retry" button.
Post-login setup
After sign-in the POS helps get the point ready to sell.
Setup checklist
If something is not configured yet, a "Setup checklist" badge appears on the home screen. Tapping it opens the "Finish setting up" sheet with the hint "A few steps left to get ready for sales." and tasks:
- "Add a printer" — print receipts and kitchen tickets.
- "Add a payment terminal" — accept card payments.
- "Add products" — build your menu so you can start selling.
Completed tasks are checked off automatically. Remove a task you do not need with "Hide" — once all tasks are hidden or done, the checklist badge disappears on its own.
Dedicated setup screens may also appear right after sign-in: "Connect hardware" ("Add printer", "Add terminal", then "Start working" or "Skip for now") and "Add your menu" ("Add product" or "Skip for now"). Anything skipped stays in the checklist.
First-login hints
A new employee sees one-time hints on the first sign-in. On the PIN screen: "Enter your PIN here to sign in and start selling." with a "Got it" button. After sign-in: "Welcome! Here's where to start" — advising a cashier to start an order and take payment, and a manager to open reports and the order list. It dismisses with "Got it" and does not reappear.
Guided first-sale tour
The POS offers a practice sale with highlighted steps. Launch it from settings — the "Guided first-sale tour" card with the note "Walk through a test sale and refund, step by step." and a "Start" button. Any step can be closed with "Skip".
The tour guides you with hints:
- "Tap a product to add it to the order."
- "Now tap here to go to checkout."
- "Choose how the customer pays — cash or card."
- "You made your first sale! Nicely done."
- "Want to practice a refund on this order?" — "Yes" continues, "No" ends the tour.
- If "Yes": "Open the menu to find your orders." → "Open the order you just created." → "Tap Refund to return the payment." → "Confirm to complete the refund." → "Refund complete. You're all set!"
This is a practice run through the real interface. Next, see Quick sale, Payments, and Returns.
App updates
Paloma POS 2 updates two ways: full versions through the device store, and small fixes over the air. Settings has an "App update" section with a "Check for update" button: a downloaded update applies on the next app restart. On Windows and store builds, update the app the normal way for your device.
Common problems
- "Не удалось завершить настройку" — the initial setup did not finish: check the connection and sign in again.
- "Can't reach the server. Check your connection and try again." — the first sign-in and first-time load need internet. Check the network and retry. After the first load the POS works offline.
- "Update required" — an outdated version is installed. Update from the device store (or the Windows installer) and sign in again.
- "This login is already taken." during registration — pick another login. If the account already exists, sign in to it instead of registering a new one.
- "This phone or email is already registered." — an account already exists for those details. Sign in, or recover access via "Forgot password?".
- "No connection. Check your network and try again." on a registration step — registration needs internet; retry with "Retry".
- Workplace data not on hand — the administrator creates and issues it in the web dashboard; it cannot be recovered on the POS.
FAQ
Where do I download Paloma POS 2?
From the store for your device: Google Play (Android), App Store (iPad/iPhone), the built-in Sunmi, Valor, or PAX store. On a Windows device — download the installer. The app is named Paloma POS 2.
Do I need internet at first launch?
Yes. Signing in or registering and the first-time workplace load need internet. After that — as the POS itself notes — it works offline and syncs when the connection returns.
Can I skip the checklist and the tour?
Yes. Setup screens close with "Skip for now", checklist tasks with "Hide", and tour steps with "Skip". You can launch the tour later from settings via the "Guided first-sale tour" card.
Am I creating an account or connecting to an existing one?
If a Paloma account already exists (for example, created by an administrator in the web dashboard), sign in with the account and workplace data. Use registration ("Sign up") only when there is no account yet — it creates a new business from scratch.
