Installing and updating — Paloma365 Classic (Windows POS)

Paloma365 Classic is the Windows POS application used by Paloma365 outlets in Kazakhstan and other CIS countries. It runs on a regular Windows PC or POS terminal, stores data locally, and syncs it with the Paloma365 cloud. This article covers installation, the first sign-in, and updates.

Requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 7 or later.
  • Internet: required for signing in and for cloud sync. If the connection drops, the POS keeps working offline — data is stored locally and uploaded once the internet is back.
  • Paloma365 account: a dashboard account with a workplace (sales point) created in the web dashboard.

Installation and first sign-in

Where to get the installer

There is no public download page for the POS application. The installer is provided by Paloma365 support or your manager during onboarding. To install the POS on a new computer, message us here — a specialist will join — they will send the installation file and help with setup.

First sign-in

After installation, launch the POS and fill in the sign-in screen:

  1. Region — choose Kazakhstan or Russia (this selects the server the POS works with).
  2. Paloma365 account login — your dashboard account login.
  3. Workplace login — the sales point created in the web dashboard.
  4. Workplace password, then press Sign in. Enable "Remember" to skip this next time.

Workplace credentials are created in advance in the web dashboard. The sign-in screen also has a Support button showing current support phone numbers; a support engineer can connect remotely from there if needed.

First database connection wizard

After the first sign-in the POS connects to its local database and, when needed, opens a connection wizard:

  1. Database server installation. The POS checks whether MySQL/MariaDB is installed on the computer. If not, the wizard shows a «MySQL or MariaDB» block with an «Install» button that launches the MySQL installer shipped with the POS. If the installer file is missing, the POS reports an error — message us here — a specialist will join.
  2. Connecting. The POS then connects to the database (by default on the same computer) and creates the required tables automatically.
  3. Connecting to another computer's database. If this is an additional register rather than the first one, tick «Network credentials» in the wizard — a server search button appears and the POS finds the main computer with the database on the local network by itself. See Several registers in one outlet.

Run the first launch together with support — an engineer will walk you through the wizard and verify the connection.

Autostart with Windows

To make the POS start automatically when the computer is switched on, tick «Autorun program» in POS settings, on the General settings tab (see POS settings).

Updating

The version number and its release date are shown on the main POS screen — quote them when contacting support.

The POS is installed and updated through the Paloma365 starter program. In the POS local settings, on the Account settings tab, there is an «Update program» button: the POS closes, the current program version is kept next to it as a backup copy (a file with the update date in its name), and the starter installs the latest version. An internet connection is required. We recommend updating together with Paloma365 support, especially if fiscal hardware is connected.

Rolling back an update

Before every update the previous program version is saved in the POS folder as a backup copy with the date in its name. If something goes wrong after an update, message us here — a specialist will join — an engineer will restore the previous version from that copy. Sales data is not lost during a rollback: it lives in the local database and the cloud, not in the program itself.

Pre-release versions

POS settings, General settings tab, has a «Use pre-release version» checkbox: with it the POS receives pre-release (early) builds ahead of everyone else. This is a testing mode — enable it only if support recommends it and keep it off on production registers.

Common issues

  • POS "won't open" — it is already running. A second copy cannot be started; a "program already running" message appears and the running window is brought to the front.
  • Antivirus blocks the POS. Add the POS folder to your antivirus exclusions. Only install files received from Paloma365 support.
  • POS won't start after a Windows update. Reboot and start the POS from its shortcut; if that fails, message us here — a specialist will join. Sales data is not lost — it is stored locally and synced to the cloud.
  • No internet. The POS keeps selling offline; data syncs automatically once the connection returns.

"Ошибка при подключении к БД" / "Ошибка при создании БД" — short forms of the same connection and creation failures; the exact reason follows on the next line.

"Не удалось выполнить установку!" (installation failed) — you pressed the MySQL/MariaDB install button in the first-connection window, but the installer file (MySQL_Setup.exe) is missing next to the program. Download the POS installation again — the database installer ships with it.

"Ошибка! Укажите допустимое имя базы данных" (enter a valid database name) — the database name field is empty or holds invalid characters. The administrator gives you that name; do not guess it.

Database connection errors

If the POS cannot connect to its database it shows one of three messages, and each names the actual cause.

"Database <name> not found! Create it?" — the MySQL/MariaDB server is running and accepts the POS, but there is no database with that name. This is usual on a first run on a new computer or after a reinstall. Press "Yes" — the POS creates the database itself and reconnects. If it cannot, message us here — a specialist will join.

"No database connection: … Incorrect login and password for MySQL" — the database server is running but rejects the login or the password. The data is intact: the connection credentials are wrong, not the outlet data. This happens after MySQL/MariaDB was reinstalled separately from the POS, or after the server password was changed. A specialist will join — the database password is kept in the POS settings and must not be edited by hand.

The POS then appends the exact text from the database server itself:

Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

That is the same message, not a different error: it shows which user the POS tried to connect as. Send it along with a photo of the screen.

"No database connection: …" with any other text — the database server is unreachable: not running, the outlet's main computer is off, or the port is closed. Check that the main computer is on and the MySQL/MariaDB service is running; for extra registers see Several registers in one outlet.
